Morning peeps,

When I started Daisy & June a while ago I didn’t really know what I was getting into. I just knew I wanted to make stuff. I wanted to be crafty and share my crafts with others. I would send my packages out just wrapped in tissue in a boring yellow envelope. Packaging never really came to mind until one day I ordered fabric from an Etsy shop. It was just a few yards of fabric but the way it was packaged was so impressive and it really changed my entire outlook on the whole concept of packaging.

I tried for the longest time thinking of what would be my perfect packaging. Maybe I over thought it who knows but I have finally picked out and ordered everything needed to make the perfect impression on my customers.

So from now on when an item is ordered from my shop they will be come in a pretty brown envelope(recycled) and wrapped in white tissue. Each item is wrapped with these gorgeous twine strings…

And each package has this adorable thank you note attached to it….

Cute right? I found some other cute things for packaging,  I thought I would share some of my favorites…

Hey everyone!

I have been getting emails lately from my customers asking about Daisy & June, how many people work with me, who are Daisy and & June, how long does it take to make an item. I love getting these emails because I love connecting with all of you! So keep writing me! I am going to try to do little posts every few weeks answering questions and posting pics on Daisy & June – Behind the Seams! So send me your questions or comments, I would love to feature you!

As for who are Daisy & June….you can find all my company info under the Daisy & June tab of my blog. My name is actually Kathy but ModernJune has really become a huge piece of me. My husband even calls me ModernJune sometimes LOL.

My company is well just me and my small inner circle. My husband handles all shipping and my best girlfriend Tena has recently been hired to help me with the prep work. My kids even get in on the fun sometimes by helping me wrap items or pin fabric. I have been debating getting my daughter a small sewing machine and teaching her at a young age. She is really into all of this and she loves seeing her name in print – as she is named after my great grandmother – Daisy.

It takes me about 30 mins start to finish to make one camera strap BUT I usually work in assembly line style so it goes a bit quicker that way.

Here are a few shots from my weekend of busy work!

Don’t forget today is your last day to enter to win 50$ to my shop – Daisy & June! Head here and play along!

Stop by and take a look at my Spring Bag I made this week too, it has been all over Pinterest which is really amazing!

Back to sewing!

xoxo

Here are the Valentines finished!

I got a few emails and messages asking me about the backdrops in my Valentines day cards.

I don’t know about you but I don’t need back drops enough to go out and buy the pricey ones. So I used fabric(which I have plenty of on hand. My bedroom gets the most natural light in the house from my big windows.

so I took a yard of fabric(for each backdrop)  and taped it to my door frames with a little packing tape

I set up my tripod next to my bed and zoomed in just right…

Thats it!

see you later peeps!

I really wanted to do something fun this year! Of course Pinterest gave me the idea and then I expanded on it a bit…

each photo will have a mustache or lips attached to them. I did mustaches for boys and lips for girls.

Daisy:

David:

Deacon:

and then their valentines together for teachers and family

I loved how they came out and I can’t wait to post the finished product with the props attached!

See you later peeps!

I have been wanting to make a new wreath for a while so of course I went to my go to craft site…Pinterest!

I found this cute tut for a burlap wreath

I love it but it was a little too clean for what I was going for. I took my burlap and let it fray to its liking, then wrapped it in folds around my hanger.I put a few dots of hot glue through to make sure it doesn’t slide down the hanger over time.

Then using a simple rolled flower technique I made a few out of the fabric I have been using for Valentines day.

And viola! Done…

I am very happy with how it came out!

It’s Halloween time in the ModernJune house and that mean costumes! Every year we go through the same thing…the kids change their minds on what they want to be about 100 times before we finally pick something at the store last min. I end up spending way too much on a costume no one is really happy with. This year I set out to change that. I wanted to make the Halloween costumes myself this year.  I am pleased to say that I actually accomplished this! The kids love their costumes and we are pretty happy with them too.

I decided to go with something that would be wearable long after Halloween and warm for the weather. Solution: Hoodie costumes. I saw these on Martha last year and loved them but I just didn’t have the guts to try them. – YET

So first up…

Little Red Riding Hood – Total Cost 26 bucks

I got the hoodie from Target and the lace frill from the Walmart and the basket from Michaels. She already had the shorts and I got the shirt off clearance and made the skirt from a 4th of July dress off the clearance rack too. A few quick stitches and it was done. Now as I said I followed the Martha Stewart tutorial but I altered it to be more versatile.

Next up…The Big Bad Wolf – Total Cost 9.88

This one was really fun and super easy. I got the hoodie from Target and the felt from the Walmart. I followed the Martha Stewart Tutorial again changing a few things to get the look I wanted. I added fluff inside the ears and sewed everything on instead of fabric glue.

Last but not least my little Dinosaur…I am calling him a cutie-a-saur…Total Cost 10.32

Hoodie from Target, felt from Walmart. This one was the most time-consuming but I love it so much I might make another for David. I found a tutorial on Pinterest and loosely followed it. I changed the shape of the spikes and added eyes claws and teeth.

That’s it! Now my kiddos will be super cute and super cozy trick or treating! I had a lot of fun with these I hoped you enjoyed them too!

and its raining 😦

My kids start school tomorrow and they are pumped up for it!

Red(David) is going into Kindergarten. We held him back from going last year. We thought he was there in terms of knowledge but his maturity level left something to be desired.  He cant wait to go! Daddy however wishes he could stay home forever.

Daisy starts 2nd grade and she is dying to go back. Daisy loves school, when she was 3 she started begging to go to school. It was like her missing link. School just made her a happier kid. I love that she loves school so much and I hope this love affair she has with it will last as long as possible!

I got their bags packed and will be making their lunches tonight. I started leaving Daisy little sticky notes in her lunch when she started kindergarten. Just a little something like I heart you or have a good day. In first grade I started writing longer notes to her, good luck on your spelling test so on…This year I decided to do joke cards in their lunches. David loves jokes and Daisy loves to tell jokes so I think this will be a cute treat for them:)

As a special treat for you I have decided to make them a freebie! (Personal use Only Please)

The pack includes 4 blank cards for you to write(or type) your own jokes on and 8 bonus cards with jokes already on them!

Have your kids started school yet??

xoxo ModernJune
